Wondering how many people get mad on festive offers and discounts and go beyond their limits in these festive seasons ?

There are many companies offering cash backs in form of coupons if you make purchasing from a particular mall etc , do you think one can take advantages of these situations in reality or its always a marketing gimmick and helps the sellers and card companies .

It is always advisable to check whether these offers are genuine or fake. What I mean here is whenever they offer any discount on any product they increase the price and then give discount on it. Sometimes it is genuinely discounted because of excess stock or old stock or some other business reason. If you are able to distinguish between them, then you get the discount what you are looking for.

My advise would be buy only those which are required for you instead of buying them just because there is an offer.

HDFC and ICICI offer various discounts on domestic travels. They offer 10% off on base fare.
Though it works out to Rs. 100 or Rs. 200 max but it still is a bargain.
I have availed the travel offer and am satisfied.

I too gained with some of the credit card offers like 5% to 10% cashback on flight ticket bookings. They immd credit the cashback ammount.

These offers make sense to me.
I went for shopping at Chermas, made a purchase of 1500 and I was asked to pick up a scratch card. I unscratched it and Lo and Behold, I got 5000. I asked for a cash settlement and I got 5000 cash without any tax issues!!
So, yeah, these offers do work…

  5. I think it’s better to avoid these “tricks”. The items which they offer via their attractive brochures are always costly as compared to market rates. Secondly, you can do bargaining also if you pay by cash as the seller has to pay some charges to banks to get payment by credit card. There are tax-issues also involved from their side.

The offer conditions needs to be read carefully.

Few months ago Reliance Trends advertised that you will get 2000 (500 x 4) Rs coupons* if you shop for 2000Rs and pay using ICICI card… However this came with many strings attached. For using each 500 Rs coupon you had shop again for Rs 2000 and that too only during Diwali time.

In my opinion “Everyone is here to make money and not for Charity”. So the discount offer is a gimmick to pull customers. Imagine even after selling at discounted prices they still make profit.

One good thing about is the customer can scout for the best rate that the dealers can offer.
