SIP Portfolio Allocation – Would love your comments

POSTED BY shyam menon ON November 28, 2012 1:17 pm COMMENTS (7)

Here is a list of funds that i have selected for a Rs 30,000 a month SIP plan for the next 15 years. Would love to know whether it looks reasonable from an allocation perspective.I hope to get an averge of 12% in returns/year over the timeframe. I have adequate FD and real estate allocations on the side.

Rs 6,000 each in Quantum Long Term Equity, IDFC Premier Equity, ICICI Pru Focussed Bluechip . Rs 4,000 each in HDFC Balanced, Mirae Asset India Opportunities Fund and HDFC MidCap Opportunities

Woudl love to know your thoughts on this selection of funds and if i need to rebalance it.

Thank You so much,

Thank you so much for your answers so far. How about this split for a Rs30,000/month SIP-
Rs 8,000 each in Quantum Long Term Equity, IDFC Premier Equity, ICICI Pru Focussed Bluechip and Rs 6,000 in HDFC Balanced ?

By including more funds you are not avoiding any risks.

If by risk you mean what if a fund doesnt perform?

Then you just have to shift to other fund at one go.simple

    Just invest in 2-3 Funds

from your list just the first three should give good diversification
Quantum Long Term Equity, IDFC Premier Equity, ICICI Pru Focussed Bluechip

    Bond Bhai.
If the returns are same over a time period it doesnt imply the objectives of those funds are same. In this case there is a difference between IDFC and HDFC if you look at their portfolio and style of investment

IDFC Premier Equity (IDFC Premier Equity Plan A?) and HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities both invest in mid and small cap funds. If you see the Till date returns, 1 year, 3year and 5 year returns you will see they are almost similar. So, the objectives are similar. If you lose, you lose in both. If you gain, you gain in both. So, it doesn’t matter if you invest in both or one. That’s my take, you can do your research and see for yourself.

    Hi Ramesh,
Thank you for the reply. I was looking to spread the risk over the 6 fund groups, maybe i should reduce it to 5 or 4.
    Take Care.

What type of risk are you thinking?

If there is any issue, you can always transfer your money from that fund to another. Having multiple funds also increase the risk that way.

  6. Ramesh says:

Why not just 18k in QLTEF and 12k in HDFC Midcap opportunities / IDFC Premier Equity?
    Simple and similar.
